The Berlin Wall Memorial (Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer) is located on a former border strip area in East Berlin and commemorates the division of Berlin and the deaths that occurred there.
At this memorial, visitors can see a 60-meter (200 ft) section of the Berlin wall that includes a watch tower. On the site is also a documentation center with the history of the wall and a visitor center. This attraction may be less famous than the East Side Gallery, but provides historical context and information about the Berlin Wall. If you are interested in the DDR and the history of Berlin as a divided city, put this one high on your list.
