The Berliner Dom is one of the most visited churches in Berlin. Built in 1905, it survived World War II with extensive damage to the main dome.
The area in which the Berliner Dom stands today has been home to many churches since the founding of Berlin.
At 114 metres (374 ft) long, 73 meters (240 ft) wide and 116 metres (381 ft) tall, the Berliner Dom when built was much larger than any of the previous churches and was considered a Protestant counterweight to St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
